Gimon Tōjō was born on July 31, 1786 in Japan.
Gimon Tōjō was head priest of Myogenji Temple in Wakasa (Fukui Prefecture), where he studied the classics first under Takahisa Fujii, then from Haruniwa Motoori. Soon mastered Japanese grammar to supplement the works of Norinaga Motoori and his son to establish the fundamentals for the study of Japanese classics. Wrote many books on the subject.
