In 1985 Ginny received Bachelor of Arts in Biology and English at the University of Miami. After that she earned Master of Fine Arts in Creative writing at Florida International University in 1991.
During Ginny's career as a Pan American flight attendant she lived in Miami. Ginny is the author of five novels for Middle Grade and Young Adults readers: "How to Speak Dolphin", "Lost in the River of Grass", winner of the 2012 / 2013 Sunshine State Young Readers Award; "Hurt Go Happy", winner of the 2008 American Library Association’s Schneider Family Book Award, "The Outside of a Horse" and "Dolphin Sky." Ginny is a past director of the Mendocino Coast Writers’ Conference during 1996 – 2004 and its current president.
On August 29, 1964 Ginny married Stan Clarke, but their marriage ended on December 29, 1965. After that she married Douglas Oesterle on May 22, 1971, but they separated in 1980. She has two stepchildren: Robert A., and Mark W.
