Ginsetsu Tomikawa was born in 1750 in Edo (now Tokyo, Japan). Original personal name: Fusanobu.
In 1760, he published the Kurohon (story book with black cover; and another work of art called Furyu Futari Kanehira (two elegant persons named Kanehira) both of which were illustrated by him. His family had a prosperous book shop, but he left it to learn ukiyoe painting under Shigenaga Nishimura.
After 1777 nothing further was heard of him. His works occupy more than 200 pamphlets and he occupies a prominent part in the history of Ezoshi (illustrated story books).
