Girolamo studied under Danese di Michele Cattaneo at Verona, Venice, and Padua.
Upon the death of his master in 1573 he finished the reliefs for the Cappella del Santo in Padua. His most important works are to be found in Venice and include the early statue of the Doge Leonardo Loredano, on the Doge's tomb in Santi Giovanni e Paolo; the altar of San Giorgio Maggiore; and the statue of St. Anthony in San Giacomo di Rialto. Campagna is noted for the sensitive but firm modeling of the heads of his figures. He died, probably in Venice, around 1626.
