Gishin Yamashita attended Meiji University and then graduated from Bukkyo (Buddhist) Gakuin school.
Gishin Yamashita became a Buddhist monk and was engaged in social welfare work. Following the end of the war, established at Hiroshima a nursery for war-affected children, particularly orphans of the atomic bomb. He elected to House of Councilors twice and worked as member of Welfare Committee, frequently assuming the post of chairman. Gishin Yamashita was member of Central Executive Committee of the Right-Wing Socialist Party and vice-chairman of Policy Examination Board.
