Zamboni. Bologna: EDB. Marcolungo. F. (1975) Scienza e filosofía in G. Zamboni. Padua: Antenove. Zamboni’s philosophy lies within, although it has important differences from, the vast apparatus of neoscholasticism. The aim of all his meditations was to solve the problem of the immediate foundations of all our knowledge. He distinguishes a field of experience that is sensory and rooted in feeling and a field of experience that is supersensible and intellectual. The first consists of sense data, feelings and images of both of these, all of which appear as objects to the percciver. The second consists of experiences of the self, the experience of assent and dissent and the acts of abstraction and analysis. The experience of the self is central, being the sole experience of substance. The experience of the self is the basis of the distinction between the I and the not-I and is the necessary condition for the abstraction of concepts and universalization. Zamboni appropriates and analyses the Thomistic notion of substance as actus essendi or existential energy on the basis of which he can defend the doctrine of creation. Zamboni also applies his method to the analysis of aesthetics and ethics.
