Excluded from competitive examination for continuation of studies at Military Medical Academy because of involvement in student revol movement. Foreign 15 years worked at Obukh Hospital. 1913-1914 sent abroad for postgraduate medical training.
1920-1921 head Therapy Section, Pctrograd Province Health Department. 1922-1933 chief physician, Botkin Municipal Infection Hospital, which became a model medical establishment under his direction. From 1927 professor Chair of Infectious Diseases, 1st Leningrad Medical Institute.
Did important research on the etiology of complications in relapsing fever. 1922 together with M. A. Rappoport, isolated microbe now known as Bacterium paratyphi North and described a complication in relapsing fever known as North-paratyphobacillosis. Helped to organize Leningrad health service.
Company-founder, Leningrad Sciences Therapeutic Social. Wrote over 30 works.
