Rea is a Republic of Ireland U21 international. Brighton & Hove Albion
On 29 August 2015, Rea signed for League One club Southend United on loan until 2 January 2016. Rea made his Southend debut against Coventry City on 31 August 2015 in a 2-2 draw.
He made a total of 16 appearances for Southend in all competitions, the last of which came on 2 January 2016 in the 3-0 defeat against Doncaster Rovers, before returning to Brighton thereafter.
On 17 March 2016, Rea signed for League Two club Luton Town on loan until the end of the 2015-2016 season, linking back up with Luton manager Nathan Jones who had previously been his first team coach at Brighton. Rea"s Republic of Ireland U21 debut came on 15 November 2014 against United States U21, in a game which the Republic of Ireland lost 1–0, Rea played the game in midfield.
