Goichi Nakano was born in 1842 Tokyo, Japan.
He joined the Shogunate expeditionary force to Choshii in 1862.
During the Shogunate expeditionary force to Choshii, he saved Denzaburo Fujita, a retainer of the Nagato Clan. After participating in the Fushimi Battle (1868), he joined the Shogitai Band of anti-Imperialist youths and fled to Hakodate (1869). Pardoned by the Imperial Government (1870), he returned and assumed the family name of Nakano.
Was appointed governor of Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1874 but resigned the following year to start a commercial enterprise with Fujita, whom he had saved during the Choshii campaign. When the rebellion of Takamori Saigo broke out in 1877, he and Fujita cornered carbolic acid and made huge profits. Arrested in 1879, but soon acquitted.
Then he, alongside Tomoatsu Godai, established the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and became its vice-president.
