Gokogqn Tenno

Background

Gokogqn Tenno was born in 1338. His name was Iyahito. Second son of Emperor Kogon and Younger Brother to Emperor Suko. His mother was Yoroku-mon-in, or Hideko Fujiwara.

Career

Ascended the Throne in 1352, with the support of Shogun Yoshiakira Ashikaga. The enthronement ceremony was held in 1353. After reigning for nineteen years he abdicated in favor of Prince Ohito in 1371. He continued to rule as Cloistered Emperor until he died of illness on 12 March 1374.

In his own lifetime, Go-Kōgon and those around him believed that he occupied the Chrysanthemum Throne from 25 September 1352 to 9 April 1371.
