Gokomyo Tenno was the 110th emperor of Japan. Go-Kōmyō's reign spanned the years from 1643 through 1654. A wise ruler, he loved Confucian learning. His name was Tsuguhito.
Background
Gokomyo Tenno waas born in 1633. He was the fourth son of Emperor Go-Mizunoo. His mother was Fujiwara no Mitsuko, the daughter of the Minister of the Left (Sadaijin); but he was raised as if he were the son of Tōfuku-mon'in. Empress Meishō was his elder sister by a different mother.
Career
Was made Crown Prince and ascended the Throne in 1643.
He died after a reign of a little more than ten years when official discipline had begun to improve thanks to his rule.
Connections
Go-Kōmyō's Imperial family lived with him in the Dairi of the Heian Palace. His family included only one daughter and no son: Lady-in-waiting: Niwata Hideko. First daughter: Imperial Princess Takako (Empress Dowager Reisei).
