Gompachi Shirai was born about 1600.
Gompachi Shirai was a retainer of the Tottori Clan who, falling victim to the charms of Komurasaki, a courtesan, took to a wild life and even committed burglaries. He finally surrendered himself to the Shogunate police and was executed.
In the kabuki plays, he is represented as a friend of Chobe Banzuiin, noted kyokaku (townsman or chivalrous spirit).
