Tamai Gompachi was a Japanese kabuki writer. Most of the dramas staged at the Nakamuraza are said to have been written by him.
Tamai Gompachi was born about 1690.
It is said Tamai began his theatrical career as an actor and later developed into the foremost dramatist of his time. While he was with the Ichimuraza Theater, it is recorded, he was the highest paid writer of all time.
