Germen started the 2013 season with the Las Vegas 51s of the Class American Automobile Association Pacific Coast League. He made his major league debut with the Mets on July 12, 2013, in an extra inning game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Germen recorded his first major league save on August 16, 2013 against the San Diego Padres, pitching two innings. Germen ended the 2013 season with a 3.93 earned run average in 34 1⁄3 innings pitched.

The Mets traded Germen to the New York Yankees on December 19.
He was designated for assignment on January 13, 2015.
The Rangers then also designated him for assignment, one day later. Germen was subsequently claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs on January 23. They designated him for assignment on February 4 to make room for Drake Britton.
The Cubs promoted Germen to the major leagues on April 19.
