Career
MacDonald was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in the 1913 Alberta general election. He was acclaimed to his seat in the 1917 Alberta general election under the Section 38 clause of the Elections Acting that stipulates an incumbent member involved in active combat in World War I would be automatically returned without challenge in his district. MacDonald retired from provincial politics at the end of his term in 1921.
