Career
Ascended theThrone in 1045. During his 23-year reign, Yorimichi Fujiwara attended State Affairs as Kampaku (adviser to the emperor). In the middle part of his reign, there was the civil war of Zen-Kunen, (a protracted revolt in Northeastern Japan against the Imperial regime).
Connections
He was the eldest son of Emperor Go-Suzaku. His mother was Fujiwara no Kishi (藤原嬉子), formerly Naishi-no kami, daughter of Fujiwara no Michinaga.
Go-Reizei had three Empresses and no Imperial sons or daughters.
