Hani Goro graduated from Tokyo University where he studied Japanese history and from Heidelberg University in Germany where he studied philosophy.
Career
A publicist who was popular with young people, he wrote on historical, social, cultural and economic subjects. He was a researcher in the history of the Meiji Restoration. Also he was a a part-time member of the Historical Documents Compilation Institute of Tokyo Uni- versity, professor at Nihon University and Jiyu Gakuen School and a member of the House of Councillors.

His mother-in-law is Motoko Hani, noted educationist.
