Career
While engaging in a fishery enterprise in Hokkaido, he learned Russian and became an interpreter. In 1807, he was kidnaped by the Russians and taken to their country. Returning to Japan (1812), he served the Lord of Matsumae (Hokkaido). He introduced vaccination which he had learned during his detention at Irkutsk and Yakutsk. Plis vaccination in Japan preceded that of Shunsai Otsuki and Soken Narabayashi by tens of years.
