Gorozaemon Chijiwa was born in 1587.
Gorozaemon Chijiwa was born in 1587.
He participated in the Shimabara-no-ran (1637-38) in which Christians in Kyushu rose against the local daimyo. When the Christian troops were sufferng from a shortage of provisions in Shimabara due to the siege by the forces of Lord Nobutsuna Matsudaira, the commander of the Shogunate expeditionary forces sent to quell the rebellion, Gorozaemon, leading a band of troops, counter-attacked. Defeated, Gorozaemon turned back to Shimabara Castle and then became missing. Some say that he was killed by Naozumi Nabeshima.
