Background
Gummer was born in New York City, New New York The daughter of actress Meryl Streep and sculptor Don Gummer, she grew up in Los Angeles and Connecticut with older brother Henry Wolfe Gummer, older sister Mamie Gummer and younger sister Louisa Gummer.
Career
Her television work includes recurring roles on the Home Box Office series The Newsroom (2013-2014), and the Forex series American Horror Story: Freak Show (2014-2015), and a regular role on the Columbia Broadcasting System series Extant (2014-2015). Gummer (billed as Jane Grey) appeared with Streep in the 1993 film The House of the Spirits, as the younger version of her mother"s character, Clara del Valle. After graduating from her mother"s alma mater Vassar College with a degree in Art History and Italian, she made her stage debut in 2008 in Lukas Bärfuss"s The Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents.
From 2010-2011, she starred as Anna Moore on the TeenNick show Gigantic, which premiered October 8, 2010.
Gummer appeared in the 2010 film Meskada, in which she played the role of National Collins, before playing Abby in Bashert (2010) with Paulo Costanzo. She also had a small role as a student in Julia Roberts" class in Larry Crowne (2011), which was directed by Tom Hanks.
In the spring of 2011, she performed the role of Chloe Coverly in the revival of Arcadia by Tom Stoppard at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in New New York Gummer appeared as Katie Rand on the hit National Broadcasting Company television series Smash on March 26, 2012, in the episode entitled "The Coup".
Gummer had a recurring role on the 2013 television series Zero Hour and joined the cast of the Home Box Office series The Newsroom beginning in its second season, which premiered on July 14, 2013.
In 2014 and 2015, Gummer starred alongside Halle Berry on both seasons of the Columbia Broadcasting System show Extant. On January 29, 2016, it was announced that Gummer had joined the cast of the United States of America Network series Mr. Robot as a series regular in the role of Federal Bureau of Investigation field agent Dominique “Dom” DiPierro.
Personal Gummer is of Swiss-German, German-English-Irish extraction through her mother actress Meryl Streep and of Norwegian-German ancestry through her father sculptor Don Gummer.
