Nordman was the Speaker of Winnipeg City Council. Nordman was first elected to Winnipeg City Council on October 25, 2006, succeeding retired Councillor Peter De Smedt. The 2010 Winnipeg Civic Election saw Grant Nordman re-elected with a 52% plurality of the vote.
Nordman was the city council representative to the Mayor"s Age Friendly & Seniors Advisory Committee and acted as the city liaison with the Royal Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Winnipeg.
His father, the late Ric Nordman, served as the city councillor for Saint Charles Ward from 1974 to 1981. Later, his father served as the provincial Modern Language Association for the constituency of Assiniboia from 1981 to 1988.
On November 4, 2013, Grant Nordman was appointed the acting deputy mayor of Winnipeg and was made a member of the Executive Policy Committee of Winnipeg City Council. He was a member of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance, the Assiniboia Community Committee and the Board of Appeal (Local Improvement Assessment Appeals). Nordman is the second member of his family to serve as the councillor for Saint Charles Ward.
