Entered army, 72nd Seafortli Highlanders, 1879. Served Afghan W7ar, 1879-1880, including march to Kandahar (severely wounded, despatches, medal and two clasps and star). Egyptian War, 1882, as Adjutant 72nd Highlanders, present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (medal and clasp, Khedive’s Star).
International occupation of Crete, 1897. Sudan Campaign, 1898, battles of Atbara and Omdurman (despatches, two medals and two clasps, Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel). Selected for promotion to command 1st Yorkshire Regiment, 1903.
Commandant of the Ilythe School of Musketry 1907-1909. Late com. 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Brigade Commander Infantry Brigade, Malta, since 1909.
