Education
He was educated at Blairmore School, an independent boarding prep school in Aberdeenshire, and then Fettes College, an independent day and boarding school in Edinburgh.
Career
He is the current Lord Lieutenant of Moray. At an early age, he moved to Elgin, Moray. Military career On 1 March 1964, Johnston was commissioned into the Territorial Army section of the Royal Artillery, British Army as a second lieutenant (on probation).
His commission was confirmed and he was promoted to lieutenant on 1 March 1966.
On 20 August 2005, Johnston was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Moray.
