A Bolshevik from 1903. Chairman of the Petrograd Union of Trade Unions in 1922. Deputy chairman of the Petrograd Soviet, 1923-1925.
Leader of the new opposition in 1925. Until 1926, secretary, and until 1927, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party. Expelled from the party in 1927.
Re-instated after an admission of mistakes in 1928. Arrested in 1934. Sentenced to 8 years imprisonment at a show trial of the Moscow centre, 16 January 1935. One of the chief defendants at a second show trial of the TrotskyistZinov’evist terrorist centre.
Sentenced to death on 24 August 1936 in Moscow. Presumably shot.
