Graduated from the Frunze Military Academy, 1949, and from the Academy of the General Staff, 1964.
Joined the Red Army, 1940. Took part in World War II. Several high command posts in the army, including that of commander of the Kiev and Transbaikal military districts. Non-voting member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1971-1976, and full member, 1981-1986.
