1899 joined revol movement. 190] joined Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party, siding with ’’Iskra” platform. 1901 arrested for membership of Minsk Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party organisation and, after a year in prison, sentenced to three years’ exile in Arkhangel’sk Province.
1904, after serving reduced sentence, worked as organizer and propagandist for Minsk Bolshevik organisation. 1906 worked in Vilnius, then became member. Technical Group, Saint St. Petersburg Committee (after London Congress this group subordinated to Central Committee).
October 1907 arrested for membership of Saint St. Petersburg Committee and spent 1 1 months in "Kresty” Prison. Then sent for four months to barracks of 100th Ostrovskiy Regt in Dvina Fortress, where he set up a military Party organisation. Became secretary, Vilnius Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) organisation.
Helped to prepare Northwestern Kray Conference. 1908 Northwestern Kray deleg to All-Russian Conference in Paris. After return to Russia became Party organizer in Kovno, then secretary, Dvina Party organisation.
1910 rearrested and after a year in prison exiled for life to Yenisey Province in Siberia. Spent two years in exile helping to organize Social of Exiled Settlers, then fled to Paris, where he spent four years. As secretary, Paris Bolshevik Section corresponded with Committee of Foreign Organization(s), Lenin, Inessa Armand, Zinov’yev, et cetera
1917 returned to Russia, where he at first worked for Moscow Okrug Party organisation and was a member of Moscow Oblast Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Committee. Became Party organizer, Presnya Rayon, Moscow, where he helped to prepare October Revol. Elected member, Moscow Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Committee.
1917-1925 secretary, Krasnaya Presnya Rayon Committee. Member, All-Union Central Executive Committee of several convocations. 1923 opposed Trotsky in a series of policy debates.
1926 joined Zinov’yev-Kamenev-Trotsky opposition group. 1927 expelled from Party for Trotskyism. Arrested by State Security organs.
