1905 expelled from 8th grade of high school for taking part in a student demonstration and strike. Moved to Baku, where he graduated from high school after external studies. Enrolled at Faculty of History and Philology, Moscow University.
Continued Party work in Moscow in underground Bolshevik circles and headed associate of Caucasian students. 1911-1912 served with artillery in Russian Army. 1914 re-drafted into the army and sent to the Caucasian Front.
As an officer carried out revol propaganda in the army. After 1917 February Revol active in revol army organizations. May 1917 headed Bolshevik faction at 1st Congress of Caucasian Army (Tiflis).
10-23 December 1917 elected chairman, 2nd Congress of Caucasian Army, held in Tiflis. The Congress adopted Bolshevik resolutions and founded a new district Army Council headed by Korganov. 12 December 1917 the Council elected Korganov head of its exec organ - the Military Revol Committee of the Caucasian Army.
January 1918 Korganov moved from Tiflis to Baku, where he helped muster regular Red Army units to fight the Transcaucasian anti-Soviet coalition. March 1918 appointed member, Committee for the Revol Defense of Baku. From April 1918 People's Commissar of Naval Affairs, Baku Council of People's Commissar.
Led revol troops during German-Turkish assault of Baku. August 1918 arrested after collapse of Soviet regime in Baku.
