Career
Metalworker by trade. Carried out Party work in southern Russia, Nizhniy Novgorod and Siberia. 1905 took part in revol in Odessa and was involved in mutiny on the battleship “Potyomkin”.
Member, Odessa Soviet of Workers’ Deputy. 1910 emigrated and worked for American Socialist Party. After 1917 February Revol returned to Russia and did Party and trade-union work in Petrograd, Donbass and Moscow.
Active in October Revol. October 1917 member, Moscow Military Revol Committee. After October Revol trade-union and admin work.
November 1917-1918 secretary, 1918-1924 chairman, Moscow Province Trade-Union Council. From 1926 Presidium member, All-Union Centr Trade- Union Council. Chairman, Central Committee, Textile Workers’ Union.
1918-1920 member, Workers and Peasants’ Defense Council on behalf of All-Union Centr Trade-Umon Council. Presidium member, Gos- plan. Collegium member, People’s Commissariat of Workers and Peasants’ Inspection.
Chairman, Inventions Committee. At 18th Trade-Union Congress sided with Tomskiy, but broke with him after congress. At 1927 15th Party Congress elected candidate member, Central Committee, All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks).
Candidate Presidium member, USSR Centr Executive Committee. Arrested by State Security organs.
