ROSKIN, Grigoriy was born in 1893.
Graduate Natural Sciences Department, Moscow University.
From 1915 laboratory assistant, assistant professor, associate professor, then professor Chair of Cytology and Histology, Faculty of Soil Biology, Moscow University. Also founder-head, Laboratory of the Cytology and Cytochemistry of Cancer, Moscow University.
Pioneered cell chemistry in the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics: introduced new concepts to the study of the contractile parts of cells and tissues. Identified the contractile function of the interfibrillary plasma of smooth muscle cells and coined the term “myon” for the complex unit of smooth muscle and connective tissue. Demonstrated the cytochemical differences between motor and sensory cells and defined the substances which constitute tigroid.
Developed methods of early cytological diagnosis of malignant tumors. Together with M. Ye. Struve, devised a method of diagnosing isolated cancer cells by staining them with methylene blue leucobase. Together with North.G. Klyuyeva developed the principles of biothcrapy of malignant neoplasms and the cancer drug “crucine”, which is manufactured by the Soviet pharmaceutical industry.
Wrote some 180 works for Soviet and for journals.
