1907 studied at Saint St. Petersburg University.
Party work among students and workers while still at high-school. 1908 joined Saint St. Petersburg Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Committee. 1909 arrested and imprisoned for two years.
1911 exiled to Yeniseysk Province. Where he continued revol work and contributed to Bolshevik journal "Prosveshcheniye”. 1914 fled from exile, went to Saint St. Petersburg, then emigrated.
Arrested in Austria immediately on his arrival and interned in concentration camp until early 1916. Then moved to Switzerland, where he had frequent contacts with Lenin. After 1917 February Revol returned to Russia with Lenin and worked for Moscow Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Committee.
During 1917 October Revol member, Moscow Military Revol Committee. March 1918 sent to Western Siberia to organize food supplies for Moscow. Member, Omsk Military Revol Staff.
June 1918 elected chairman, Tyumen’ Revol Staff.
