Grigoriy Nikolaevich Gennady was a Russian bibliographer, bibliophile, and historian of Russian literature of the XIX century. The first bibliographer of Pushkin and Gogol.
Background
Grigoriy Nikolaevich Gennady was born on March 30, 1826, in Saint Petersburg City, Russian Federation. He was descended from nobles; his ancestors were Greeks. His grandfather Alexander Gennady, who moved to Russia, served at the court of Empress Catherine II. He was listed in the Semyonovsky regiment and at one time was engaged in furs that were brought to the Empress's Office. Father Nikolai Alexandrovich served as a translator in the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Education
Grigoriy Nikolaevic received his primary education at the Sychevsky district school, then was brought up in the exemplary private boarding school of Leopold Chermak in Moscow.
