Grigory Andreyevich graduated from the Faculty of Forestry of Petrov’s Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (Moscow, 1878). He was Kliment Arkadievich Timiryazev’s student.
Since 1880, Grigory Andreyevich worked as a forester of Shavelsk (Shaulyaj) Forestry. In 1882, he worked in Novoalexandrovsk Forestry of Kovno Governorate and in 1886 he was a forester of Tellermanovsk Forestry of Voronezh Governorate. Kornakovsky was heavily engaged in restoration and improvement of oak forests.
Kornakovsky was the author of the oak regeneration method through the system of stripped-coupe alternate strip felling, the so-called “Kornakovsky fellings”. This system was included in the forestry textbooks.
Grigory Andreyevich is the author of the book "Working Plan and General Description of the Tellermanovsk Grove" (1904) and articles in "Lesnoj Zhurnal" ("Forest Journal").
