Career
Her rank in the imperial harem was "Dördüncü Kadın Efendi" (literally "fourth woman", ie "fourth imperial lady consort"). Gülcemal Kadınefendi was born in 1826 and was from Albanian descent. Her real name was Sofia.
At a very young age she was given to the palace for service.

She is buried in the Mausoleum of the imperial ladies at the Yeni Mosque Istanbul.
