In 1983 Williams was given a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to country music and Aboriginal people. In 2000 he was an inductee into the Country Music Hands Of Fame in Tamworth. He was given a Deadly in 2001 for Outstanding Contribution to Aboriginal Music. Gus Williams was in 2004 presented with a Country Music Centenary Medal from CMAA for service to Australian society through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music In 2005 Williams was inducted into the hall of fame at Music Northwest Territories"s Indigenous Music Awards.
