In 1921 he left secondary school. From 1922 to 1924 Gustav got an education in a workshop of the sculptor Augustus Dursi, in parallel studied the drawing at the school of applied art of Mannheim, from 1924 to 1925 studied at the Art school of Karlsruhe.
From 1925 to 1932 he was a student of the Berlin University of the Arts in Berlin, Germany.
From 1940 to 1945 Gustav served in the military service. In 1946-1950, he was a professor at the University of Berlin, in 1950-1958 he was a member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR and head of the art workshop. After receiving an award by G. Zeyts and the academic rank in the GDR he was dismissed from the West Berlin Higher school of arts. In 1950, Zeyts moved in east part of Berlin. In 1958 moved to Hamburg.
He devoted his life to the creation of sculptures, his works were repeatedly exhibited at prestigious international art exhibitions.
