Career
Trained as a Zen priest of the Rinzai Sect, he was well versed in Confucianism and Chinese literature. He presided over the Ashikaga School for about 80 years. His directorship coincided with the heyday of the school. At one time, students coming there from all parts of the country totalled 3,000.
