Joined 53rd Bengal Native Infantry, 1851. Adjutant 1st Cavalry Gwalior Contingent Force, 1854. Commanded in several minor engagements in the Doab in May and June 1857, and present at the actions near Agra in July and October 1857.
Second in Command of Meade’s (Central India) Horse, November 1857.
Commanded that regiment and the Sipri Field Force, 1859-1861. Held various appointments under the Government of India from 1862.
Was thanked by the Government 404 North-west Provinces on four occasions, and mentioned in despatches. Twice wounded— once severely. One horse killed and one wounded.
