After completing professional education as above and obtaining diploma of Fellow of the Royal School of Naval Architecture (F.R.S.N.A.), has been employed by Admiralty as follows:— Assistant and principal overseer of war-ships building in private yards, also foreman of the yard, His (or Her) Majesty Dockyard, Devonport, 1867-1880. Constructor in charge of shipbuilding and engineering departments of the Indian Government Dockyard, Bombay, 1880-1883. In this capacity was very highly commended in Government of India despatches for work in connection with the transport of the Indian con tin gent of the Egypt Expeditionary Force of 1882.

Assistant Director of Naval Construction, Admiralty, 1902-1906. Has served as Member of several Admiralty Departmental Committees, and been selected to give evidence before other Departmental and House of Commons Committees on subjects connected with naval architecture and dockyard management.
Has several times received the thanks of the Board of Admiralty for services rendered. F.R.S.N.A.; Memorandum Council l.N.A.
Spouse 1870, Susannah (daughter 1890),daughter of late Captain Robert Duffill, of Rochester, Kent.
