Studied at Sidney College, Bath.
Entered the Sarawak Service, 1876, as cadet. Appointed Assistant Resident in charge of Butang Lupar District, 1881. Promoted to Resident of the same district, 1883, which post he held till 1891, when he was promoted to 1 Divisional Resident of the 4th Division.
February 1894 to August 1896, Acting Resident of the 1st: Division.
Personal Aide-de-Camp to His Highness the Rajah, Knight Grand Cross of Saint Michael and Saint George, in which capacity he accompanied His Highness to England in 1883 and in August 1901. In June 1902 commanded a large punitive force sent to punish some turbulent head-hunters in the interior of Batang Lupar.
Resident 1st Division March 1903. Ad ministered Government during absence of H. H. the Rajah, 1903-1904.
Retired, 1904.
