Career
Assistant to late Professor Donders at the Physiological Laboratory at Utrecht, 1882-1888. Professor in the Royal Veterinary School in Utrecht, 1888- 1901. Introduced the application of physical chemistry in the medical sciences, 18S3 - and published a work containing the researches of himself and others on this subject: Osmotischer Druck und Ionenlelire in den medicinischen Wissenschaften, 1902-1904.
On 4th June 1908, date of commemoration of his first 25-years doctorship (chemistry), the merits of his scientific work were celebrated by the publica- 873 tion of an international jubilee-book, containing a great number of biochemical contributions of medical and chemical scientists of the old and the new world.
Professor of Physiology in the University of Groningen since 1901.
