Mr. Severance acquired training and experience in offices of Carrere & Hastings and other firms in New York. Excepting one period when he was associated with William H. Van Alen, he carried on independent practice. In addition to the Bank of Manhattan building he was architect of the Manger Hotel at 50th Street and Seventh Avenue, and the Bar Association Building on West 42nd Street (the latter in collaboration with Mr. Van Alen).
