Shekerjian, Haig was born on June 13, 1886 in Ada Bazaar, Turkey. Son of Hagop and Esther (Alexanian) Shekerjian.


Came to the United States, 1891. Student Colgate University, 1906-1907. Bachelor of Science, United States Military Academy, 1911.

Graduated from Command and General staff schedul, 1924, Chemical Warfare School, 1924, Army War College, 1931.


Commissioned Second lieutenant, United States Army, 1911, and advanced through the grades to brigadier general (temporary), 1942. Served with troops in the United States, Hawaii and Mexico, 1916-1917. Served in Balkans and Russia with Allied Armies of the Orient and with British Forces in Turkey, 1918-1919.

With American Mission to Armenia, 1919. Transferred to Chemical Warfare Service, 1923. Assistant commandant, Chemical Warfare School, 1925-1926.
