During her elementary years, she lived with her aunt who had never encouraged her to learn how to read and write. For that reason she did not get the opportunity to read and write stories as other children did in school. When she went back to her parents’ house, the life changed for the better, and she was able to do things like other children. During that time, she also had an uncle who regularly visited her, and he loved to tell stories.
Mdurvwa attended Borno College of Education in Nigeria and Tuskegee University. She also attended Southern Union College.
Hajara E. Mdurvwa devoted her life to writing. Now she works as a freelance writer of books for children, living in Hampton, Alabama.
