After graduating from Yokosuka Naval Shipbuilding School (1877) was sent to France for further studies.
Returning home joined Yokosuka Shipbuilding Yard (1881). Later was director of Onohama Shipbuilding Yard in Kobe with rank of captain.
As a member of Naval Technician Association rendered great services in improving coal combustion, in manufacturing of briquet, etc. Later resigning from the navy became president of Japan Steel and Chiyoda Rubber companies.
