He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in telecommunications in 1994 from the Université du Québec’s Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS).

He has been involved in the agile software development community since 2001. Erdogmus holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Boğaziçi University’s Computer Engineering Department in Istanbul, Turkey (1986) and an Master of Science degree from McGill University’s School of Computer Science in Montreal, Canada (1989). Erdogmus first worked at INRS-Télécommunications, Montreal, for a year as a research associate advancing and applying his Doctor of Philosophy work on the validation and synthesis of communication protocols.
From January 1995 to June 2009, he worked for the Canadian National Research Council’s Institute for Information Technology, a federal government research laboratory.
Between 2002 to 2009, he led the Agile and Collaborative Practices and Software Economics research threads in the Software Engineering Group. Hakan Erdogmus co-edited two software engineering books, Advances in Software Engineering: Comprehension, Evaluation and Evolution and Value-Based Software Engineering, both published by Springer.
Erdogmus is emeritus Editor in Chief of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Software. He holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of Calgary’s Department of Computer Science, where he occasionally teaches graduate courses.
He also received the Eugene L. from the Engineering Economy division of the American Society for Engineering Education.
