Mcallister, Hall was born on February 9, 1826 in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Son of Mathew Hall and Louisa Charlotte (Cutler) Mcallister.
Attended Yale, 1846-1847. Studied law privately.
Admitted to Georgia bar, 1849. Moved to San Francisco, 1849. Formed law firm with his father and brother, 1850.
Became Second lieutenant California Guards (organization to enforce law and order). Had large law practice, said to have tried and won more cases than any other California lawyer of the time. McAllister Street (San Francisco) named for him.
