Removed to Detroit, 1884, and established Hamilton Carhartt & Company, wholesale furnishing goods, changed, 1899, to manufacturer men’s working apparel, as Hamilton Carhartt Manufacturer (Inc.), and, 1915, to Hamilton Carhartt Cotton Mills (Toronto, Ontario, and Liverpool, England. Manufacturing concentrated at Carhartt Park at the foot of the Sweet Lick mountains, Kentucky), president of mills.
