Lash"s works have been commissioned by orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Orchestra, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, and the Minnesota Orchestra. Her chamber music has been commissioned and performed by the JACK Quartet, the Da Capo Players, the Arditti Quartet, the Jupiter Quartet, among others Her music has been presented in such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival and School, the Great Lakes Music Festival, New York City Opera’s VOX, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
She frequently collaborates with librettist Royce Vavrek, on dramatic and/or vocal works.
Hannah Lash was born in Alfred, New York, United States of America in 1981. She began her studies in music during early childhood, and continued to pursue music throughout her education.
She obtained a bachelor’s degree in composition from the Eastman School of music in 2004, her Doctor of Philosophy from Harvard University in 2010, a performance degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2008, and an Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music in 2012. Lash was appointed to the composition faculty of the Yale School of Music in 2013.
During the 2013-2014 season, Lash serves as Composer in Residence with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, as well as being the Sound Investment Composer with the Los Angeles Orchestra.

Among her awards and honors she has received a Fromm Foundation Commission, a fellowship from Yaddo Artist Colony, the Naumburg Prize, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Morton Gould Young Composer Award, a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Barnard Rogers Prize, and the Bernard and Rose Sernoffsky Prize.
