He has all along represented the constituency Uluberia in Howrah district of West Bengal. He was inducted into the politburo of the party at the 21st Party Congress in April 2015. He is also the General Secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha and a Joint Secretary of the All India Agricultural Workers" Union.

He was a member of Lok Sabha of India from the 7th Lok Sabha to the 14th Lok Sabha. He became a member of the party when he was barely 16. He is currently a member of the Central Secretariat of the party.
