He completed his university education in the Netherlands, obtaining a Bachelor in geology from Leiden University in 1960, an Master of Arts in 1964, and finally his Doctor of Philosophy in 1967.
He is an emeritus professor of Earth Sciences at Rice University. Avé Lallemant then moved to the United States where he was a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University for three years. In 1970 he became an assistant professor at Rice University, four years later he became an associate professor at the same university.
Avé Lallemant obtained United States. citizenship in 1980.
In 1981 he became a full professor of Earth Sciences at Rice University.
